a One of the best parts of my job as a writer for young adults is visiting schools and speaking to teens who study my books. As authors we sit alone in small rooms, tapping away at computers, putting words down one by one, hoping to pass on some wisdom. Hoping our characters and their pain, hope and 'aha' moments will resonate. That's why it's so lovely sitting down with students. Apart from getting away from my desk, it's an opportunity to reflect on the reading experience and dive deeper into the themes my readers have explored. Whether we're talking about the research, the writing process or the true stories and history that inspired the novels, the interactive nature of the sessions makes it a learning experience for us all.
